Sylvan Beach Duathlon and Triathlon

Dana Lyons won the entire race with an overall time of 1:09:43.
Nora Wilson won her 55-59 age group by a whopping 11 minutes.

Other FSR athletes competed in the triathlon with a 500 meter swim, 15 mile bike and 3 mile run..

Tim Thurman finished in 1:20:24 - 6th in his competitive 30-34 AG.
Michael Collins won his 40-44 AG in a time of 1:10:33!
Tami Fincher came in 5th in her 45-49 AG in a time of 1:40:23.
Bryan Bandeko came in 4th in his 45-49 AG in a time of 1:16:17.
Charlie Schubert came in 4th in his 55-59 AG in 1:22:05.
Ann Erickson had an amazing race finishing 1st in her 70+ AG in 1:26:38.

Nora reports, "The race begins and ends on Sylvan Beach in LaPorte, which is easy to get to.  Both run segments are flat out-and-back through a residential area.  The second run, being a mile longer, takes the athletes just past the entrance to beautiful Morgan's Point (home of the Yellow Rose of Texas) where they make a U-turn and head back to the beach.  The bike course is fun, fast and flat except for an overpass which participants go over twice.  Duathletes share the bike and run courses with the triathletes.  Every athlete was received at the finish line with an ice cold towel and a post-race party with music, pizza, cookies, fruit, MuscleMilk and ice cream!"

Congrats to Finish Strong triathletes Alan Jones, Jesus Carias, Steve Hardy, Chris Normyle, and Lisanne Rogers for battling gale force head and cross winds and torrential rain during the Tejas Tri on Sunday, June 2.  The race was a sprint distance with a 600meter swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run.

Heights Fun Run

Finish Strong Racing's Nora Wilson won first in her age group at the Heights Fun Run on Saturday, June 1.

Here's Nora's race report, "This race was for me, a fitness check since the Boston Marathon 6.5 weeks ago.  The course is flat and 'would be' fast, were it not for the heat and humidity!!!  Still, it's a well-organized, pretty, shaded route, out-and-back Heights Blvd.  The post-race festivities take place in Marmion Park, where awards are presented in a gazebo surrounded by trees, park benches and tents where runners can find bagels, breakfast tacos, iced coffee and other goodies.  There is also a kids 1K and kid-friendly activities that are fun to watch before awards and door prizes are announced.  This is not a time I'm proud of, but I did get the W55-59 AG win (barely!) in 23:59 (7:44 pace).  Hope this body gets used to the heat and humidity soon!"

Well done, Nora!
