Tall Texan Triathlon


Team FSR Member Jim Harrington placed second in his age group and 11th overall at the Tall Texan Triathlon held on March 28 with a time of 5:34. Although the Guadalupe River was cold, the bike course was hilly, and the entire time it was windy, Jim pressed on.
Jim swam the first leg in 35:16, biked the second leg in 3:03:38, and finished comfortably with a run time of 1:51:16.
Congratulations on an excellent effort, Jim!

Rock 'N Roll Dallas Half Marathon


Sunday, March 14, almost 10,000 people crossed the finish line at the Rock 'N Roll Dallas Half Marathon. Two Team Finish Strong runners completed their personal best for this race. Kristin Collins (pictured above) set a personal best by completing the 13.1 mile course in 1:49:10. Deena Birdsong ran a 2:19:06 -- shaving 7 minutes off a PR that she had recently set in New Orleans. Way to go, Kristin and Deena!

Spring Fever 5K




























































































Saturday, March 6 was a beautiful day for running a 5K in The Woodlands! Grogan's Mill Park was the location for the Spring Fever 5K where 276 people competed. Among them, many Finish Strong athletes posted some amazing times.

For the men, Rip Reynolds finished 8th overall and 2nd in his 40-49 age group with a time of 18:53 (6:03/m pace). Skip Moschell was right behind rip in 9th place overall with a time of 19:04 (6:05/m pace) claiming first in the 50-59 age group. Brandon Sager took 12th overall and 4th in his 20-29 age group with a time of 19:14 (6:10/m pace). A PR by 20 seconds for Brandon! Kent Morris took 16th overall and 3rd in his 50-59 age group with a time of 20:07. A PR for Kent! Tom Schwarzkopf placed 19th overall with a time of 20:47 and finished 4th in his 40-49 age group. Ten-year old Lane Barron came in 25th overall and first in his age group with a time of 21:19. Bill Glaser came in 33rd overall and 8th in his 40-49 age group with a time of 22:07. Paul Daly came in 39th and 8th in his age group of 30-39 with a time of 22:49. Randy Barron came in 42nd and 9th in his age group of 30-39 with a time of 23:10. David Smart followed close behind with a time of 23:40 placing 45th overall and 11th in the competitive 40-49 age group. Roger Mercier came in 55th overall and 1st in his 60-69 age group with a time of 24:34. William Blount came in 61st overall and 7th in his age group with a time of 24:52. Dave Holsey finished in 27:17 coming in 2nd in his age group of 60-69. Andrew Jaynes, 12, finished 8th in his age group (14 and under) with a time of 33:01.

For the women, Sharon Morin posted a 21:53 to earn herself the female master's title and third overall for the women. Pilar Glaser and Hannah Barron were among the young girls finishing the race in 5th and 6th overall with times of 22:26 and 22:42, respectively. This was a PR for Hannah! Emily Roper took 9th overall with a time of 23:50 in the 30-39 age group. Katherine Barron came in 11th for the females with a time of 24:14 placing 4th in the (14 and under) age group. Kristie Chandler came in 2nd in her age group (40-49) with a time of 25:31. Staci Bouthillette was close behind Kristie placing 3rd in the 40-49 age group with a time of 25:38. Carolyn Barron came in at 27:11. placing 7th in 40-49 age group. Rose Mary Bundscho came in 7th in her age group of 50-59 with a time of 30:46. Setting a personal record, Matacha Saul finished in 30:48 -- beating her old record by over 2 minutes! Susana Olivares finished in 31:01.

Frost Your Fanny Duathlon

TEAM FSR dominates at Frost Your Fanny -- USAT South Midwest regional championship duathlon race on February 28. This 3mi/15mi/3mi event was held in Katy, Texas.

Here are the results for the gals:
Hannah Barron, 13, placed 2nd in her age group (female 14 and under) with a time of 1:43:05.
Katherine Barron, 15, placed 4th in her age group (female 15 to 19) with a time of 1:44:19.
Carolyn Barron, 41, placed 12th in her age group (female 40 to 44) with a time of 1:43:38.
Cindy McManis, 50, placed 5th in her age group (female 50 to 54) with a time of 1:45:48.

Now, for the guys:

Dana Lyons, 52, won the overall master award (and 2nd overall) with a time of 1:14:20.
Lane Barron, 11, placed 2nd in his age group (male 14 and under) with a time of 1:32:16.
Rodrigo Abascal, 17, placed 7th in his age group (male 15 to 19) with a time of 1:27:43.
Kyle Mason, 18, placed 8th in the same age group (male 15 to 19) with a time of 1:29:56.
David Kayda, 34, placed 5th in his age group (male 30 to 34) with a time of 1:20:49.
Tim Monk, 39, placed 4th in his age group (male 35 to 39) in 1:23:14.
(Not bad considering he had to walk his bike to the finish after flatting on the course.)

Casey Clark, 39, placed 5th in his age group (male 35 to 39) in 1:23:33.
Tommy Sustala, 41, placed 7th in his age group (male 40 to 44) in 1:21:56
Craig Wakefield, 41, placed 8th in the same age group with a time of 1:23:06.
Rip Reynolds, 44, placed 9th in the same age group with a time of 1:23:25.
Steve Hardy, 44, placed 17th in the same age group with a time of 1:31:56.
(And Steve raced a half marathon the day before!)

Manuel Abascal, 43, placed 29th in the age group with a time of 1:46:13
Will Blackbird, 49, placed 14th in his age group (male 45 to 49) with a time of 1:35:30.
Kent Morris, 50, placed 4th in his age group (male 50 to 54) with a time of 1:24:27.
Mike Bard, 39, won the Clydesdale category with a time of 1:26:40.

Mardi Gras Half Marathon

Team FSR runner Deena Birdsong ran the Mardi Gras Half Marathon on Febrary 28. She was pleased to run a PR at 2:27:30 -- beating her old time by 1 hour and 31 minutes. Great job, Deena!

Conoco Phillips Rodeo Run 10K




Three Finish Strong athletes raced at the Conoco Phillips Rodeo Run 10K held on Saturday, February 27. Steve Hardy and Scott Pinkston (pictured above) both finished in 48 minutes. This was a PR for Steve. Jackie Lewis (pictured at top with her friend Kelli) finished in 50:37 finishing 17th in her age group at a 8:08 pace. Way to go!
