HITS Sterling, Colorado

Sterling, Colorado was the location for the HITS Series Half Ironman race on July 28-29.  Finish Strong's Jim Harrington competed in the tri and took 2nd in his 45-49 AG.  Jim swam the course in 38:02, then powered for 2:48:44 on his bike, then finished the day with a 2:36:05 very hilly half marathon for an overall time of 6:01:43.  Way to go, Jim!!

Ironman Calgary 70.3

Finish Strong's Don Cole traveled to Calgary located in Western Canada's Rocky mountains to compete in Ironman Calgary 70.3. Swimming the clear waters of Ghost Lake, cycling with the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, and running the beautiful pathways of Glenmore Park; Ironman 70.3 Calgary is as stunning as it is challenging. It’s been voted one of the top ten most scenic triathlons in the world by Triathlete Magazine.
Not sure how much of the scenery Don took in as he raced hard finishing this half Ironman distance race in 5:33:35. Don's splits were 38:35 swim, 2:53:51 bike (58 mile course), and ran the final half marathon in 1:51:19.  Congratulations, Don!

Fambridge Yacht Station Tri

Finish Strong's Jane Foley traveled to England to race at the Fambridge Yacht Station Half Ironman Tri in North Fambridge near Chelmsford, Essex, England. She placed third in her 35-39 age group in a time of 5:22:45.  Jane commented, "Tough race!  Most of the run was on trails, grass and gravel.  There was a strong head wind for half of the ride and the local council had decided to do road works so they had a guy standing non the road with a 'stop/go' board who stopped some of the field (including me). I waited for 3.5 mins while they let the oncoming traffic through!! So frustrating! As a result of that they changed the bike route which cut it short by a mile but with that headwind I didn't mind."

Jane's splits were 34:41 swim, 3:06:19 bike (17.7 mph), 1:39:33 run (8:39/mi pace).  Great job, Jane!
Any pics?

Aquathlon Nationals

Finish Strong Coach Richard Mac Namee competed in the Aquathlon Nationals on Saturday, July 28 in Mercer Island, Washington.  Richard placed 3rd in his age group and 19th overall in the long course!  His results qualify him for worlds in New Zealand in October.  Richard's overall time was 1:03:44 for this 1500m two loop with “beach exit” Swim and very hilly 10km Trail Run.  Next stop, World Championship!!

Heart of Dixie Tri

Finish Strong Racing trio of Mike Menster (left), Ronnie Delzer (not pictured) and Dana Lyons (right) received awards at the Heart of Dixie Tri held in Philadelphia, Mississippi on Saturday, July 28.

The Heart of Dixie Tri was a point to point Olympic Tri with a 1/2 mile swim in Lake Tiak-O'Khata, followed by a rolling 27.5 mile bike and a 7 mile run ending at Neshoba County Fairgrounds.  Finish Strong Racing athletes Ronnie Delzer, Michael Menster, and Dana Lyons each put in a good race effort.

Ronnie Delzer came in 5th in his 30-34 AG and 21st overall finishing in 2:15:00.  Ronnie's splits were 13:23 swim, 1:12:43 bike (22.7mph pace), and 47:04 run (6:45/mi pace) -- despite some GI discomfort.

Mike Menster came in 4th in his 40-44 AG and 22nd overall finishing in 2:15:33 -- just 33 seconds behind Ronnie.  Mike's splits were 15:14 swim, 1:10:10 bike (23.5mph pace), and 45:55 run (6:34/mi pace).  Mike had the second fastest run in his AG.

Dana Lyons came in 2nd in his 50-54 AG and 10th overall finishing in 2:08:37.  Dana's splits were 15:24 swim, 1:05:59 bike (25 mph), and 43:48 run (6:17/mi pace).  Dana had the fastest run in his AG.

Chantal Requier was third female overall and 1st in her AG at the recent Tri Waco triathlon held on July 22 finishing in 1:54:40 for the 1500 meter, 20K bike, 10K run distance race!  Chantal was joined by Finish Strong teammates Amy Antley who placed 8th in her 35-39 AG in a time of 2:11:05 and Cindy McManis who placed 2nd in her 50-54 AG in the sprint distance race (400meter, 20K bike, 3.4mile run) in a time of 1:22:34.  Y'all rock!

U of Okoboji Triathlon

Finish Strong's father-daughter duo - Mike and Becca Novelli competed in the U of Okoboji Triathlon in Arnolds Park, Iowa on Sunday, July 21.    Mike won his 50-59 AG and was 17th overall with a decisive 1:36:34.  Mike's splits were 15:33 swim, a solid 47:31 on the bike, and fast 29:47 final run.  Becca came in 5th in her competitive 20-29 AG and 6th female overall in 1:44:08.     Her splits were 15:14 swim, 53:09 bike, and 33:13 run.  Hurray for the Novellis!!

Cincinnati Olympic Tri

Finish Strong's Shannon Crowe was the overall female winner of the Cincinnati Olympic Tri held on Sunday, July 22.  Shannon won the event in the last 3/4 mile of the run!  Shannon reports, "I had been gaining on the leader and then kicked up my pace at mile 4. It was a fun but challenging course. Lot more hills than I anticipated especially the run which was supposed to be flat. The swim was interesting. We had to basically slide down a bank into the water and there was tons of debris the whole way. I got bonked on the head a few times by logs. Despite this, my swim was fast - 19:11 for 1350 meters.  The bike was great but had some decent hills. There was a long, super steep hill going up to the Columbia Parkway that we had to do twice and a lot of people walked that. All the roads were closed to traffic so that part was so much fun. 6 lanes of Columbia Parkway! My bike time was 1:14:36. The run was a little hillier than I thought but I felt good - 46:27."

The race was even more special to Shannon because she raced with her sister who competed in her first tri and took 2nd in her AG.  Shannon raced in memory of her mom who passed away one year ago and for her Dad's birthday.  Shannon said, "I really was racing to honor them and my goal was to win overall so it was really emotional and a special win,"

Julio reports, "I ran very conservative. 4-5 hills but 2 major inclines that had me gasping for air. I knew it would be a long day when I got to the first aid station at mile 6 in 1hr 20min. At 3pm I was at mile 33. Then I had to climb back up those 2 major inclines. It took me 2.5 hrs to run/jog/walk/hike
and crawl 7 miles. WOW!!!! AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!! Next year I'll do the 100K. Thanks Dana."

Way to go, Julio! Would love to see your pics!
