Finish Strong's Shannon Crowe was the overall female winner of the Cincinnati Olympic Tri held on Sunday, July 22. Shannon won the event in the last 3/4 mile of the run! Shannon reports, "I had been
gaining on the leader and then kicked up my pace at mile 4. It was a
fun but challenging course. Lot more hills than I anticipated especially the
run which was supposed to be flat. The swim was interesting. We had to basically slide down a bank
into the water and there was tons of debris the whole way. I got bonked on the
head a few times by logs. Despite this, my swim was fast - 19:11 for 1350 meters. The bike was great
but had some decent hills. There was a long, super steep hill going up to the
Columbia Parkway that we had to do twice and a lot of people walked that. All
the roads were closed to traffic so that part was so much fun. 6 lanes of
Columbia Parkway! My bike time was 1:14:36. The run was a little hillier than I
thought but I felt good - 46:27."
The race was even more special to Shannon because she raced with her sister who competed in her first tri and took 2nd in her AG.
Shannon raced in memory of her mom who passed away one year ago and for her Dad's birthday. Shannon said, "I really was racing to honor them and my goal was to win
overall so it was really emotional and a special win,"
