Run the Woodlands - 5K

Kevin Baker celebrated his 1st anniversary of running by participating in Luke's Locker's Run for the Troops 5K on May 25.  Kevin PRed yet again -- improving by 19 seconds in 2 weeks with a finishing time of 19:39.  Other Finish Strong racers participating were Lane Barron 19:45 and Chris Weir.



New Orleans 5150

Lots of hardware was earned by Finish Strong athletes at the New Orleans 5150 (Olypmic distance tri) held on Sunday, May 26.  The team earned two top AG finishes; one 2nd place AG finish and one 4th place AG finish.  All Finish Strong team members who raced finished in the top 15 of their AG earning each a spot at the World Championships to be held in Des Moines on Labor Day Weekend.

Zach Miller - 2:17:30 with 27:12 swim; 1:07:57 bike; 40:21 run splits.

Ronnie Delzer - 2:28:08 with 31:38 swim; 1:10:35 bike; 43:34 run splits.

Art Fresquez - 2:32:31 with 27:38 swim; 1:09:48 bike; 51:37 run splits.

Jack Chapman - 2:37:52 with 37:20 swim; 1:10:42 bike; 45:32 run splits.

Tim Vibrock - 2:20:58 with 24:56 swim; 1:05:34 bike; 47:49 run splits.

Dana Lyons - 2:16:03 with 31:38 swim; 1:01:52 bike; 40:03 run splits.

Cap Tex

This Memorial Day weekend five Finish Strong athletes participated in the Cap Tex tri on May 27.  Jim Harrington, Chris Wendt, Manuel and Rodrigo Abascal raced in the Olympic distance race; Irasema de Aquino raced in the sprint distance race.  It was a good day for all our athletes!

Jim Harrington finished 6th in his AG in 2:26:58.  Jim's splits were 25:13 swim; 1:08:04 bike; and 48:51 run.

This was Chris Wendt's first Olympic distance tri.  He finished the race in 2:28:25 with splits of 26:16 swim, 1:11:23 bike; 44:57 run.

 Rodrigo Abascal finished in 2:43:43 placing in 9th his AG.  Rodrigo's splits were 27:21 swim; 1:16:45 bike; and 55:11 run. 
 
 Rodrigo's dad, Manuel, finished in 3:05:08.  Manuel's splits were 30:07 swim; 1:20:42 bike; and 1:07:30 run.

Rodrigo's mom, Irasema raced in the sprint in 1:49:24 with an 18:40 swim; 52:13 bike; 30:49 final run.

Combat Tri

Congratulations to Finish Strong's Taylor Riall and husband-and-wife duo Kathy and Kent Morris who raced Combat Tri on Saturday, May 25.  This was a sprint distance triathlon featuring a 300m swim/15 mile bike/3.1 mile run.

This was Taylor's second triathlon and she placed 2nd in her AG and 8th woman overall.  Taylor reports that she was 12 min faster than CB&I even though it was only 200 m shorter!  Taylor's time was 1:15:54 with splits of 5:05.7 swim, 46:08.8 bike, and 22:35 run.

Kathy finished was 3rd out of 8 in the Athena group with a time of 1:35:28. She keeps getting faster!

Kent was 1st out of 17, 5th overall and just missed the Male Masters Overall by 18 seconds with a time of 1:04:24.  Kent's average bike speed was 23.8 mph and run pace was 6:28.

Run for the Troops 5K on May 25 at 8am

This weekend Luke's Locker will host the 3rd annual Run for the Troops 5K on Saturday, May 25 at 8am at Barbara Bush Elementary School.  The minimum donation to participate in the race is $1.   You may also choose to bring donations to the race or the store.  Single use items such as instant oatmeal, granola bars, peanuts, powdered drink mix, etc. are requested.  Luke's will then package up multiple gallon sized bags of goodies for the troops.  This year the items are going to an Army unit in Kandahar.
