Conroe Courier Names Triathletes and Duathletes of Year

Finish Strong Racing Athletes shine in The Conroe Courier first annual Triathlete awards for Montgomery County posted by Jon Walk on January 4.

Finish Strong Racing athletes enjoyed wins in many categories. Dana Lyons won Male Triathlete of the Year. Jon Walk writes, "The 52-year-old from The Woodlands posted the best half Ironman in the area of the year with a 4:31:38 at Ironman 70.3 New Orleans in April, then followed it up with an overall sprint win at Gateway to the Bay in April and a masters sprint win at The Woodlands’ CB&I in early May." Dana also captured the Male Duathlete of the Year, too.

Buck Snyder claimed the best male Ironman Performance of the Year with his 10:34:31 finish at Ironman Austria on the Fourth of July, a 32-minute personal best.

Ed York won the Half Ironman Performance of the Year. Ed was the only area triathlete to post a pair of sub five-hour half iron distance showings with a 4:50:14at Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake followed by a 4:42:07 at Ironman 70.3 Austin.

Finish Strong also posted a number of Age group Triathletes of the Year including Youth (18 and under) Lane Barron and Hannah Barron, Open (19-39) Buck Snyder, and Veterans (50-over) Kent Morris.

New Year's Day Metric Century Bike Ride

























































About 50 people gathered together at 9:30 on New Year's Day to bike 100 kilometers (62 miles) including part of the IM Texas bike course. Finish Strong Coach Dana Lyons organized the event. Everyone who participated enjoyed starting the new year with a great bike workout!

Mistletoe 5K

Finish Strong athlete Linda Trinkle ran the Mistletoe 5K in the Bridgeland community in Cypress TX. Linda's time was 22:24. She placed 2nd in her age group and 18th overall. Congrats, Linda!

Finish Line Sports 30K

Bill Mack completed the Finish Line Sports 30K run on December 11 in Sugar Land. Bill had a terrific run finishing 36 out of 111 in his age group and 287 overall out of 1111 runners. He ran a steady pace (8:34 per mile pace) with a negative split to finish in 2:39:28. Congrats, Bill!

Seawall Half Marathon



Finish Strong athlete April Davis completed the Seawall Half Marathon held on Saturday, November 19, 2011. April completed the 13.1 mile race that started at Stewart Beach on Galveston Island, Texas, and finished at Moody Gardens in 2:31:10.
Well done!!

LaPorte By The Bay Half Marathon

Team FSR Kristin Collins came in 4th in her age group at the recent LaPorte by the Bay Half Marathon. She finished the 13.1 miles in 1:50:58 running a brisk 8:28 per mile pace back and forth across the Fred Hartman bridge. Kristin commented that she has a love/hate relationship with that bridge!

Ironman Cozumel

It was a tough day of racing on the Island of Cozumel in Quintana Roo, Mexico on November 28. With temperature and humidity soaring, you knew the race would be settled by who could handle the heat - of the weather conditions and the field. Congratulations to TEAM FSR Will Blackbird who took on the challenging race and completed Ironman Cozumel in just over 12 hours.

Will finished the 2.4 mile swim in 1:08:21, the 112 mile bike in 5:47:49, and the final 26.2 mile marathon run in 5:04:18 for an overall time of 12:06:21.

Way to go, Will!!
